Stars - Part 5

Aaron ignored the news completely as he knew it was just a waste of time and he had something far more interesting to look into - Mr. Fairmaner.  Mr. Fairmaner had real human teeth in his house and claimed that they were 'prosthetic fangs'. Aaron was trained to be an investigator. He had seen real blood, organs and even crime scenes. He had studied enough cases in his training to know what was fake and real. And those teeth were definitely real. Now Aaron had two options. Either he investigated Mr. Fairmaner or found this nephew. Mr. Fairmaner did seem innocent, and even if he wasn't, he would never say that out loud, and he was always going to be too professional with Aaron to get any information out anyway. After a long time of thinking and weighing his options, he decided to find this nephew. The bad thing about this digital world is that no information about anyone is ever truly private, but for investigators like Aaron, it was a good thing. Aaron was able to find Mr. F...

Stars - part 4

His heart was pounding in his chest and his head was throbbing. He was sitting against the wall in an empty alley. At that time, he finally understood what had been keeping him from joining as an investigator. The fear of making the wrong decision. The wrong judgement. He had seen criminals walk free because the police misjudged the situation and ended up putting an innocent behind bars. The news blasted loudly in the empty café: "A body linked to the Star-Killer was discovered just minutes ago on North Bridge Avenue, according to police at the scene...." For a moment, his heart felt like it would break his ribs with all th...

Stars - part 3

Serial killers always have a pattern, or something that eventually gets them caught. Some like to keep trophies - small things their victims once owned. A few develop a strong feeling for a specific appearance and make that appearance the signature look of their victims. Others have a location linked to their victims. It's a place where they can easily pick up their victims or just a place closer to their own house.  Thus, Aaron’s first instinct was simple: find a pattern. He kept trying but the fourth or fifth victim always ruined the streak of similarities and then he had to find some something else that was common among all Star-Killer's victims. He had visited victim's families, his police friends and bartender again but still no luck. A few victims did have an identical look, similar occupations or apartments in same building but it was never enough that it could be called a pattern. Police hadn't been able to find Star-Killer for years. Aaron knew he wasn’t going ...
