Stars - Part 8

Eliot was sitting in front of a camera that was recording him. Aaron was sitting by the camera with James. He was extremely restless, and James was annoying him to no end. James knew the limits, how he could bend things, and when he couldn't. Earlier, he had been quick to arrest Eliot, but now he wanted to record whatever Eliot had to say, then decide whether to go to Gray or not. Aaron tried to calm himself as Eliot began to speak: "Gray is my closest friend. He knows everything about me, and I trust him completely...but he's not right in the head. He always liked blood,... and hamsters! God! The things he used to do with them. I knew he was cruel, but he was always extra nice to me.  "It was tolerable since he never hurt humans....but then he gave me teeth as a gift. He was super proud. I don't know why he thought I would love it, but I hated it. Recently, he stopped giving me those as gifts-" Aaron interrupted, "How long has it been? When did he give ...

Stars - Part 7

Aaron didn't waste any time and made a deal with Lucas for teeth. If Lucas were any older, he would have become suspicious of Aaron's readiness, but luck has been really on Aaron's side.  Lucas had no idea what the big deal with teeth was. His whole focus was on money. Probably his first adventure. Aaron paid quite a lot for the teeth. Luckily, Lucas brought the whole cup for Aaron, so nothing was missing. Aaron went straight to the police station after meeting Lucas in an empty parking lot. It was only the second day since he officially took the case, but he realized how useful it was. He could get these teeth checked by forensics to know for sure if they were real. He handed those teeth to the forensics team.  James had been keeping an eye on Aaron. He showed up and watched the team testing the teeth in a rush. The case was of high priority, so everyone quickly started to run the tests on the teeth. "Are those real teeth you told me about? Related to Mr. Manner?...

Stars - Part 6

James, Aaron's police friend, was holding the notes Aaron had been taking on the Star-Killer. Aaron, on the other hand, had his head held down in shame and was fidgeting with his fingers. The police were still going through his apartment for more notes. He had already told everything to James. He had no choice since he was caught anyway, and the only way to keep the trust the police had in him was to tell the truth without hiding anything. James sighed and spoke, "If he wanted you to find him alone, and killed a person to keep you from getting a chance to talk to us, then why did he challenge you like this in public with his message?" The long silence before this question, while everyone stared at Aaron in disappointment, had given him enough time to know the answer to this question. He sighed and spoke quietly. "I changed my route that day. If I hadn't done that, I would have been the first person to find that message along with his heinous deed. He knew I would...

Stars - Part 5

Aaron ignored the news completely as he knew it was just a waste of time and he had something far more interesting to look into - Mr. Fairmaner.  Mr. Fairmaner had real human teeth in his house and claimed that they were 'prosthetic fangs'. Aaron was trained to be an investigator. He had seen real blood, organs and even crime scenes. He had studied enough cases in his training to know what was fake and real. And those teeth were definitely real. Now Aaron had two options. Either he investigated Mr. Fairmaner or found this nephew. Mr. Fairmaner did seem innocent, and even if he wasn't, he would never say that out loud, and he was always going to be too professional with Aaron to get any information out anyway. After a long time of thinking and weighing his options, he decided to find this nephew. The bad thing about this digital world is that no information about anyone is ever truly private, but for investigators like Aaron, it was a good thing. Aaron was able to find Mr. F...

Stars - part 4

His heart was pounding in his chest and his head was throbbing. He was sitting against the wall in an empty alley. At that time, he finally understood what had been keeping him from joining as an investigator. The fear of making the wrong decision. The wrong judgement. He had seen criminals walk free because the police misjudged the situation and ended up putting an innocent behind bars. He had made a decision, a judgement, and was afraid that he had made a wrong one. He had left the man from the pub who had introduced himself as Star-Killer and run away. After a few minutes, he got up and started to walk down the roads aimlessly. As he was walking past a small café, he saw that another breaking news report was live. He went in to hear it. The news blasted loudly in the empty café: "A body linked to the Star-Killer was discovered just minutes ago on North Bridge Avenue, according to police at the scene...." For a moment, his heart felt like it would break his ribs with all th...

Stars - part 3

Serial killers always have a pattern, or something that eventually gets them caught. Some like to keep trophies - small things their victims once owned. A few develop a strong feeling for a specific appearance and make that appearance the signature look of their victims. Others have a location linked to their victims. It's a place where they can easily pick up their victims or just a place closer to their own house.  Thus, Aaron’s first instinct was simple: find a pattern. He kept trying but the fourth or fifth victim always ruined the streak of similarities and then he had to find some something else that was common among all Star-Killer's victims. He had visited victim's families, his police friends and bartender again but still no luck. A few victims did have an identical look, similar occupations or apartments in same building but it was never enough that it could be called a pattern. Police hadn't been able to find Star-Killer for years. Aaron knew he wasn’t going ...

Stars - Part 2

Aaron had spent hours in front of his laptop. The screen showed another article about Star-Killer and his evil deeds. This one was trying to show that he was not a criminal at all, but actually a good guy, because every person he killed supposedly had a dark past. The first man had worked at a power plant that released toxic waste into the environment. Another victim, a security guard, was later found guilty of stealing instead of protecting the property he was assigned to guard. A woman Star-Killer had murdered was exposed for a long history of animal cruelty. None of it had any proof, and the accused couldn't defend themselves from the grave. Aaron rolled his eyes at the article. People and their obsession with making criminals look innocent was something that always icked him. He looked at the paper star again.  "Of all the people on earth, you had to choose me? I was having a good life here without any issues. I am not gonna try to find you. I know you serial killers get ...
